Lytes Cary Manor
At Lytes Cary Manor near Somerton as the days get lighter, the first flowers of spring create a carpet of colour. Spring is one of the most magical times of the year at Lytes Cary. From the earliest crocuses to late spring's camassias, there's a lot to gladden the heart in both the garden and throughout the estate. Garden tours run every day for those who want to know more about the history, the seasonal highlights – and the compost heap!
Montacute House
Spring time at Montacute House means tulips. Thousands of bulbs were planted over the winter, most of them being different mixes of tulips: you’ll find 'Mystery' in the newly planted borders round South Lodge, while the traditional reds and yellows bring a welcome hit of colour to East Court. While the tulips are flowering, the garden team will be running special Tulip Tours every day. The 20-30min tours will cover history, myths and how these glorious flowers are used in Montacute garden. Ask at reception for more details.
Stourhead
Stourhead’s beautiful house and picturesque garden is waiting to be explored by families who want to make memories that will last. And this year children (and grown-ups!) will be able to create extra memories by hand painting a stone as a special memento for mums over Mother’s Day weekend. Using the examples of nature at Stourhead and signs of spring as inspiration, children will be able to us the paints and stones on hand at our drop-in workshop in the Stable yard, with support from our creative volunteers. We know there are lots of budding artists, young and old, who will be keen to show off their skills and make something beautiful and special for Mum to keep. Stone decorating costs £2 per craft (no pre-booking necessary) and is available 10am until 4pm on 21 - 22 March at the stable yard. Normal admission also applies.
