The Frome Independent Market
Frome is a Somerset market town located at the eastern end of the Mendip Hills and a must for a day out!
The place is fast becoming one of Somerset’s top bohemian hot spots with an array of independent shops and a monthly independent market going from strength to strength. The town centre boasts beautiful historic architecture and is perfect for a lazy summers day stroll.
Today after months of trying to get there we finally made it to the Frome Independent Market and were lucky enough to hit it on a lazy summer’s day.
I was incredibly impressed from the outset with the efficient park and ride service running frequently into the centre. We arrived at Frome-on-Sea, a man made beach with buckets and spades a plenty surrounded by deck chairs. Next to the beach was the delightful Vintage Mobile Disco and retro sounds of Donna Somerset complete with disco ball.
The atmosphere was jubilant, the folks sitting on their deck chairs helping little ones build sandcastles relaxed and chilled out as if really at the beach. With the cool 70s vibe of Donna Somerset you could almost imagine you were anywhere. The sun was shining and there was an air of simple happiness just to be there.
We set off into the High Street and I was amazed at the number of stalls and bargains on offer especially the wealth of food and drink to sample and buy.
There was quality live music in the high street which attracted quite a crowd. It was busy with hustle and bustle but everyone seemed to be lapping up the magnificence of the offerings at the market and the warmth of the day.
We bumped into a gang of super heroes who were only too happy to have their photographs taken, making the children’s day.
Frome is far-out and funky and the Frome Independent Market is an outstanding way to show case this and attract visitors from far and wide.
All my expectations were met and surpassed.
The market takes place on the first Sunday of every month from March to December.
Thank you Frome Independent Market, we will be back very soon!
